Pure Golden Goodness. Inspired by Texas Wildflowers.

Our Honey Journey

At Odom Honey Hive in Springtown, Texas, our love for honeybees began with an appreciation for nature, wildflowers, and the remarkable work that goes on inside a honeybee hive.

One of our dreams is to offer beautiful, golden honey produced by bees we care for right here in North Texas.

As our beekeeping journey continues and our apiary grows, we look forward to sharing future honey harvests with our customers.

Our Odom Honey Hive honey is coming soon!

What Is Raw Honey?

Raw honey is honey that has not been subjected to the high-heat processing commonly used in some commercial honey operations.

Honey is naturally produced by bees from flower nectar.

Its color, flavor, thickness, and aroma can vary based on the flowers visited by the bees, the season, and local growing conditions.

Every harvest has the potential to tell a different story about the surrounding landscape.

How Honeybees Make Honey

Producing honey requires the coordinated work of thousands of honeybees.

1. Gathering Nectar

Worker bees visit flowers, collecting nectar and carrying it back to their colony.

2. Transforming Nectar

Inside the hive, enzymes help change the nectar’s sugars as worker bees process and store it.

3. Reducing Moisture

Bees fan their wings and help evaporate excess water from the nectar.

4. Sealing the Honeycomb

Once the honey is sufficiently concentrated, bees seal filled honeycomb cells with thin layers of beeswax.

This stored honey provides energy for the colony, especially when flowers are scarce.

Honey Ingredients

Ingredient: Honey

Pure honey is a naturally produced food made by honeybees from floral nectar.

Our future honey products will have their specific origin, net weight, and other required label information identified on each jar.

Why Does Honey Vary in Color?

Honey can range from pale golden yellow to deep amber.

Its color and flavor are influenced by the nectar sources available to the bees.

Here in North Texas, blooming wildflowers, flowering trees, and other nectar-producing plants create a changing landscape throughout the seasons.

The characteristics of our future harvests will depend on the flowers available to our bees.

Does Raw Honey Crystallize?

Yes! Crystallization is a natural process that can occur in genuine honey.

Over time, some of the naturally occurring glucose forms crystals, causing the honey to become thicker or develop a grainy appearance.

Crystallization does not automatically mean honey has spoiled.

To gently return crystallized honey toward its liquid state, place the tightly closed container in warm—not boiling—water and allow it to soften gradually.

Avoid overheating.

How Should Honey Be Stored?

For best quality:

  • Keep honey in a tightly sealed, food-safe container.
  • Store at room temperature in a dry location.
  • Keep it away from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
  • Always use clean, dry utensils.
  • Do not introduce water into the container.

Proper storage helps preserve honey’s flavor and texture.

Important Honey Safety Information

Never feed honey to infants younger than 12 months.

Honey may contain spores of the bacteria associated with infant botulism. It is not safe for babies under one year of age, even when the honey is raw, local, or pasteurized.

Individuals with known allergies or specific dietary concerns should consult an appropriate healthcare professional before consuming honey.

Looking Forward to Our First Harvest

At Odom Honey Hive, responsible beekeeping and the health of our honeybee colonies come first.

We look forward to the day when our bees produce enough surplus honey for us to offer a harvest to our customers.

Until then, thank you for following our journey as we grow our apiary in Springtown, Texas.
